Hymn - Who is the Pious Muslim?
by Amherst D. Tyssen
Who is the pious Muslim, who?
He who believes in God above:
Who scans the universe around
And o'er its face sees marks abound
Of matchless wisdom, power, and love.

Who is the pious Muslim, who?
He who believes in man below:
Who kens his spirit shall not die,
But pass before its Judge on high,
And reap its mead of weal and woe.

Who is the pious Muslim, who?
He who God's holy prophets hears:
Who lists attentive to their voice,
And bids his heart thereat rejoice,
Their precepts and their names reveres.

Who is the pious Muslim, who?
He who observes the hours of prayer:
Who ev'ry day at morn and ev'n
Devoutly turns his thoughts to heav'n
And asks for grace to lead him there.

Who is the pious Muslim, who?
He who gives alms to feed the poor:
His own indulgences restrains
To soothe the helpless orphans' pain,
Nor turns them hungry from the door.

Who is the pious Muslim, who?
He who preserves his heart sincere:
Who seeks to learn and do God's will,
And honours all who so fulfil
The duties of their stations there.
